About two minutes. You do not need to know anything technical, and you will not be asked to edit anything. This all happens once.
Geeze AI lives in the menu bar at the top of your screen — the small eye, near the clock. It has no Dock icon and no window sitting in your way.
Drag Geeze AI to your Applications folder and open it. A setup window appears with seven short steps, and the eye appears in your menu bar straight away.
Google, Apple, or your email address — with email we send you a link to click. No card, nothing to enter, nothing to copy and paste.
This is what identifies your account. Geeze AI signs in to nothing else, ever.
This is the one step Geeze AI cannot work without, so it is worth thirty seconds.
macOS does not let any app read what is on your screen until you say so explicitly. Geeze AI opens the right settings page for you, so you do not have to go looking for it. You will see a list of apps, each with a switch beside it. Find Geeze AI and turn its switch on.
That is the whole step. You do not need to click anything else or go back to the setup window — Geeze AI notices within a second and moves on by itself.
If you skip it, Geeze AI will tell you what you are giving up. It can no longer read text from most apps, so for those it falls back to taking one look at the window instead — slower, less exact, and only if you allowed Screen Recording during setup. If you declined that too, those apps cannot be captured at all. Gmail and LinkedIn in Chrome still work either way, as long as the Chrome setting from step 4 is on.
No screenshot is ever saved. The text a capture produces is kept in your local history for as long as your retention setting says, the same as any other capture.
Most screens Geeze AI reads as text. A few — some app windows, anything that is really a picture — it has to look at instead. This card asks once whether to allow that.
If you allow it, Geeze AI takes one picture of the window you pressed on, reads it, and throws it away. Nothing is kept. If you choose Not now, that is remembered and you will not be asked again — those few screens are simply skipped, and everything else works as normal.
You can change your mind later: Settings has a switch called “Read screens as images when needed”.
Skip this if you do not use Gmail or LinkedIn in Chrome.
Chrome keeps one setting switched off by default that Geeze AI needs in order to read a web page properly. It is in a menu most people have never opened, which is why we walk you to it:
Chrome's menu bar → View → Developer → Allow JavaScript from Apple Events
Click it once. A tick appears next to it. Then come back to Geeze AI and press Check.
The first time Geeze AI reads a Chrome tab, macOS will ask whether to let Geeze AI control Chrome. Say Allow. It sounds alarming, and it is the ordinary way one Mac app reads another: Geeze AI only ever reads, and never clicks or types in your browser.
If you said no by mistake, the setup window gives you a button that opens the right settings page to fix it.
The default is ⌘ ' — hold Command and press the apostrophe. Press whatever you would rather use and Geeze AI will remember it.
Two things worth knowing. macOS will not accept a shortcut whose only modifier is Option, so if nothing registers, add Command or Control. And if you later find your shortcut does nothing in one particular app, that app has claimed it for itself — pick a different one in Settings.
Look at anything — an email, a profile, a message thread — and press your key while the setup window is in front. The eye blinks, and Geeze AI shows you the first line of what it wrote.
Then paste it anywhere. That is the product.
Press your key while looking at anything. A description plus the full text goes on your clipboard. Paste it into any AI assistant and ask your question.
Press ⌘ ; to paste your last capture straight into whatever you are typing in, without disturbing what you had copied.
Open the window from the menu-bar eye to see recent captures, read one again, copy it back, or change any setting.
About Screen Recording. Geeze AI asks for it once, on one setup card, and never again. It reads text the way a screen reader does and only looks at a screen when that screen cannot be read as text. No picture is ever saved.
When you press the key, Geeze AI reads the text on your screen and sends it to our server, which passes it to OpenAI to write the one-line description. We record that a request happened — which account, when, how much text, how long it took — and never what your screen said.
Each capture is also saved on your own Mac so you can look at it again, and deleted automatically after a day. You can change that to seven days, or to never saving anything, in Settings. It is never synced anywhere.
The full privacy and retention policy is here.
Almost always step 3. Open Geeze AI’s window and check the Accessibility row; if it is off, turn it on in Settings under Permissions.
Step 5 — either the Chrome setting, or the Allow prompt that follows it.
Open Settings, go to Account, and sign in again. Your saved captures are untouched.
Some screens cannot be read as text. When that happens the press pastes a short notice instead of the text and the menu-bar icon flashes a warning, so you are never left wondering whether it worked. There are two reasons, and Geeze AI’s Home screen tells you which one applies.
Screen Recording is switched off. Home says so and gives you a button that opens the right settings page. Turn it on and those screens start working.
You turned off “Read screens as images”. Home points you back to that switch in Settings. Turn it back on, or leave it off if you would rather Geeze AI only ever read text.
Geeze AI read your screen but could not reach us, so it gave you the full text with a plain factual header rather than nothing. The capture is still useful. Try again in a moment for the description.
If Geeze AI says “Geeze AI is busy — headers are simplified for now”, it is writing plain factual headers instead of described ones for a while. Nothing is wrong with your installation, nothing is lost, and the full text still reaches your clipboard exactly as always. It returns to normal by itself, usually the next day.
That app has claimed the same shortcut. Pick another in Settings under Hotkey.
Open Geeze AI's window, go to Help, and press Copy diagnostics. Send that to support@geezeai.com and tell us what you were looking at. Diagnostics contain no capture text.
